When I was 6 years old, my dad placed the movie Labyrinth into our DVD player. That day, I sat there watching David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly romanticize kid napping. It was magical. Labyrinth was one of the very first films I watched as a kid, and it ultimately led to my love for film and other forms of media. I enjoy media mainly because it impacts every aspect of my life. For example, watching these films growing up shaped my values and allowed me to have goals and inspiration.
When it comes to other types of media besides film, I’ve always loved photography. In 2016, I went on a family vacation in Alabama. On this vacation, my dad handed out bright pink cameras to all the kids and said that “whoever takes the best pictures wins candy!”. And yes, I did win. So, even though the only incentive was a lollipop, I looked for every single angle and object that caught my eye and took pictures. Ever since this one vacation, I’ve grown very fond of photography and everything that comes with it. (Pictures I took on this vacation included below)

So, while labyrinth may be my first film, it’s definitely not my favorite. One of the most tragic love stories told in film history is Star Wars. The idea that a single jedi loved a girl so much, that his fear and desperation of her dying was his own corruption is simply breathtaking. Thus, a piece of media I could watch repeatedly would be the ending of Star Wars: Episode lll, Revenge of the Sith. Even though I still dearly love Star Wars: Episode V, The Empire Strikes Back, nothing compares to the final moments of Anakin Skywalker holding on to the light side. (Clip below)
Whether it’s film or photographs, media has shaped me to who I am today.
